People’s court shows no mercy to children

I started off my day as usual with the morning cup of coffee, a cigarette and the news paper. Online news sites being are now my primary source of information. Hence I start off with the local and city section of the news paper. The Bombay Times and After Hrs section go straight to the bin, in mere seconds.

I was shocked to see how the people deliver justice to the weaker sections of society but keep quite when put against some one on their level. In this case it was two 12 year old children.

In the bizarre incident surpassing every sense of humanity, two children were stripped bare naked in public, beaten by the crowd and paraded around by the residents of Abhinav Nagar a neighborhood in Borivli, Mumbai. The onlookers cheered on for 20 long minutes until a kind hearted man managed to convince the people to return their clothes. After the children in tears went down on their hands and knees and pleaded to be let off. The mob handed them over to the passing police patrol van. This all happened because they stole a mobile phone, that costs a few thousand rupees.

It's a sad state of affairs for sure, but there's a cruel irony when you actually tag the post as India Shining... we've certainly come a long way.

In other news, did you go to the Waters concert?
