Where was I when this happened! This was something great that took place, and I was busy programming and too busy partying to bother with things happening in the Indian Blogging World.
You may have seen full page ads of a guy in a glasses sporting a ponytail, and a big heading which generally goes as "Management Guru", or author of the management book "Counting your chickens before they are hatched" which apparently landed in the Humor section of FabMart. For some reason when ever I passed by a magazine running this advertisement, I just wanted to tear it up, or light it on fire.
Some where in October 2005, a blogger named Gaurav Sabnis posted a blog pointing to a article on a local newspaper targeting college and high school students, about how a management university IIPM is nothing they claim they are. Generally you find them advertising things like "Top 5 b-schools" in India, and other things like WiFi Towers and Free Laptops.
*Quality of management students being churned out*
A very interesting thing I noticed across all the IIPM posts as the language. There were a number of students from IIPM who had potty mouth, some thing you do not notice from a good management institute. I am not a good writer, neither am I great at spellings, but I could point out a bunch of mistakes on their comments and their blogs.
"Example":http://cities.expressindia.com/messages.php?newsid=152721#2229 this student tried really hard to get his point across, only to be ridiculed in other comments and blog posts. There were also a lot of people who impersonated being IIM students, I have had a number of friends who have passed out from IIMs, but the ones commenting and spamming the blogs don't seem to have even passed their high school exams. Also when did being a lesbian become something to frown upon?
Another interesting comment was by a person who teaches at Haas, UCLA and is also completing his PhD. This tops the list, The Hass business school is in Berkley, and Anderson is in UCLA. I have nothing more to add about him. But if you do find a professor or student who goes by the nick DesiHowardRoark please take a minute to tell him where he is teaching or studying, he seems to have things confused.
*On other things*
To make things more interesting IIPM students started blogs, that latest for a few months then died out. I did scan through a few blogs, they all spoke about the same thing. The college is great, the faculty is great, but never once did they justify themselves, or something that every one was waiting for, Arindam Chaudhuri educational background. Another interesting fact was that a faculty member got his degree from the university in Berlin a number of years before it existed.
*The bottom line*
Why am I happy? For one I don't see that ugly duck as often as I used to in magazines. But most importantly, this is one of the first times the Indian Blog community has flexed it muscle.
